What to Expect

Therapy: How It Works

  • Please contact me by email to arrange a short phone conversation. During this call we will discuss your concerns and, if appropriate, schedule an initial consultation of 75 minutes to explore in more detail why you are coming to therapy, whether it is the right option for you at this time, and whether I am the right therapist for you. It is important that the fit is right, as the therapeutic alliance is the foundation for ongoing work.

  • If we decide to work together, we then begin to meet once a week, on the same day, at the same time. Regular sessions last 50 minutes.

  • The short answer is: no. Before the initial Consultation you may wish to think about why you are coming, the struggles you are currently experiencing and what you would like to change.

During ongoing work, I do not set homework. However, it may be useful before a weekly session to think about what you wish to discuss or what may have happened in the week.

  • At the moment, I only offer Zoom sessions. I will send you a link for both the consultation and ongoing sessions.

  • Consistency is an important part of the therapeutic process, but there may be times you cannot attend owing to holidays, illness, or work commitments.

If you are unable to make a session, and we discuss it in advance, then I will try and accommodate a change in time. If you simply cannot attend, then I will charge for that session.

The reason is that your session time is for you, and I would not see another client within that time. However, the flexible nature of Zoom makes it easier to attend. When working with couples, it is important you attend together.

  • This is a common question, but one which is very hard to answer. It will depend on many factors, which is why I work on an open-ended basis. However, if your primary reason for coming to therapy relates to one specific issue, then we may agree to work together for an agreed period.

  • Ending usually happens by mutual agreement and is planned accordingly. However, you can decide to end your sessions at any time with one week’s notice (although it is best to discuss and agree the ending together).

  • Initial 75-minute consultations are £150.  Fees for ongoing weekly sessions are discussed during the initial Consultation, but they start at £85 for individuals and £120 for couples.

If you have any other questions, please get in touch.
